A popular destination in the middle of the Indian Ocean for its beautiful beaches and its unique culture, Mauritius offers today the possibility to spend a dream holiday with class. With the evolution of tourism in the world, Mauritius is not famous today for its vast expanses of white sandy beaches, its ambient temperatures, its permanently pleasant weather and its typical dishes. Over the years, Mauritius has become a popular destination for its world-class golf courses.
Did you know that Mauritius is in fact the third country in the world where golf is practiced after the United Kingdom and India? Nowadays, golf has become one of the best sports in Mauritius and one of the main attractions for visitors to the island. Golf has been played in Mauritius since 1902 when the first golf club, The Gymkhana Golf Club in Vacoas, was opened by members of the British Royal Navy. The Mauritius Gymkhana Golf Club is the oldest golf club in the southern hemisphere and the fourth oldest golf course in the world. Since those early days, Mauritius has become the ultimate golf destination for any golfer.
There are a surprisingly high number of golf courses scattered throughout the island, ranging from basic 9-hole courses to world-class championship golf courses with 18 holes designed by the world's top golfers such as Ernie Els, Bernard Langer Extended and David Leadbetter. Golf courses in Mauritius are designed to test the efficiency and accuracy of golfers. From bushes to bunkers and water hazards hidden by greenery, golf courses in Mauritius offer an exciting experience in a beautiful natural setting. Many of these courses offer spectacular sea views and open coastal panoramas.
Our island has some of the best golf courses in the world designed by renowned golfers such as Gary Player, Bernhard Langer, Ernie Els, Peter Matkovich and Rodney Wright. The Mauritius Open is a tournament that has existed since 1994. However, since 2009, the tournament has been sponsored by the Mauritius Commercial Bank, hence the name European Seniors Tour (Mauritius Commercial Bank Open). The Mauritius Commercial Bank Open is the successor to the Mauritius Open which has been played in the spectacular Constance Belle Mare Plage complex since 1994. The 54-hole event is played on the Legend and Links Golf Club courses. Situated along two kilometres of white sandy beach on the east coast of Mauritius, Constance Belle Mare Plage is set in a 15-hectare tropical garden and provides a spectacular backdrop for some of the best senior players.

Designed by the famous golfer Bernhard Langer, the golf club is accessible to players of all levels. The course covers 38 hectares on the southern half of Ile aux Cerfs with holes meandering along the island, naturally boasting rolling topography with volcanic rock outcrops, lakes and ravines, and a variety of tropical trees and plants. The 18 holes of this golf island have ocean views - some with glimpses through clearings through the trees; others as you approach the shoreline.
Vast white sand bunkers and water have perfectly enhanced the natural setting of trees and vegetation. Water is an essential feature of the course. There are nine lakes in all, and three of the holes require tee shots across the coves from the sea to the fairways. The succulent grass is Salam Seashore Paspalum, which is resilient in the tropical climate and allows the highest standards of course conditioning.
In 2013, renovation work was carried out on the nine front holes to provide a better golfing experience for golfers. Since then, feedback has been enthusiastic and positive. In June 2014, the back nine holes began to be reviewed and improved.
In 2019, IAC was ranked among the top 100 golf courses in the world by Golfscape.
