Mauritius is the 3rd country in the world where golf is practised

Nowadays, golf has become one of the best sports in Mauritius and one of the main attractions for visitors to the island. Golf has been played in Mauritius since 1902 when the first golf club, The Gymkhana Golf Club in Vacoas, was opened by members of the British Royal Navy. Since those early days, Mauritius has become the ultimate golf destination for any golfer.

There are a surprisingly high number of golf courses scattered throughout the island, ranging from basic 9-hole courses to world-class championship golf courses with 18 holes designed by the world's top golfers such as Ernie Els, Bernard Langer Extended and David Leadbetter. The Ile aux Cerfs golf course

Evaluation of the Ile aux Cerfs golf course

Designed by the famous golfer Bernhard Langer, the golf club is accessible to players of all levels. The course covers 38 hectares on the southern half of Ile aux Cerfs with holes meandering along the island, naturally boasting rolling topography with volcanic rock outcrops, lakes and ravines, and a variety of tropical trees and plants. The 18 holes of this golf island have ocean views - some with glimpses through clearings through the trees; others as you approach the shoreline.

Vast white sand bunkers and water have perfectly enhanced the natural setting of trees and vegetation. Water is an essential feature of the course. There are nine lakes in all, and three of the holes require tee shots across the coves from the sea to the fairways. The succulent grass is Salam Seashore Paspalum, which is resilient in the tropical climate and allows the highest standards of course conditioning.

In 2013, renovation work was carried out on the nine front holes to provide a better golfing experience for golfers. Since then, feedback has been enthusiastic and positive. In June 2014, the back nine holes began to be reviewed and improved.

In 2019, IAC was ranked among the top 100 golf courses in the world by Golfscape.
