The only difference between 4 star hotels and 5 star hotels in Mauritius is that there may be additional charges for certain services. The important thing is that these hotels remain the perfect choice for those who wish to enjoy a comfortable stay at an affordable rate. To make the right choice and have the best possible destination, please first make sure that the chosen hotel offers the following services:
Without question, this island is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. The land of the Dodo has transformed itself over time and is now a hub of hospitality. It has several hotel groups including Beachcomber, Hotels Attitude Mauritius, Constance Mauritius, Indigo Hotels, Sun Resorts, Club Med, Heritage Hotels, LUX* Resorts to name a few. In most cases, these hotel groups concentrate mainly on the coasts, with no other explanation than that the island enjoys a vast expanse of turquoise water that makes one dream. To maintain a standard of service, the hotels turn to providing memorable experiences to guests while opting for distinctive services.
The strong point of 4-star hotels in Mauritius is that a large majority of these hotels are located by the sea. And where there is a sea, there is a beach. All the beaches of the island are heavenly and offer fabulous white sand overhung by crystal clear water. The island is surrounded by a lagoon that shines like an emerald tide. Undoubtedly, almost all 4-star hotels offer sea trips and a good snorkelling session to discover the magnificent fauna of the local seabed. Needless to say, those who cannot swim have nothing to fear as they will not lose out on enjoying the filaos and coconut palms by the sea for a splendid tan.
The tourist island has no less than 109 hotels classified and regulated by the Tourism Authority of Mauritius. More than 80% of Mauritian hotels are located on the coast, but the service is not the same everywhere. Let's take a look at the hotels that have a high classification, i.e. 4-star superior and 4-star standard. In the official list of the Tourism Authority of Mauritius (TAM), there are 29 establishments sharing the honours. Only four of these have been awarded the 4-star Superior title as of September 2019 and they are, La Pirogue Hotel, Radisson Blu Azur Resort & Spa, Le Victoria Hotel and Sands Suites Resorts & Spa. The first of these is owned by the island's largest hotel group, Beachcomber. 25 others share the 4-star title, offering a wide range of choices to guests.
To do this, the local authorities have combed through the establishments one by one and have established a list of 600 criteria to be met in order to grant the classification. These 600 criteria are further categorised under 27 sections which contain simple specifications for 4 star hotels in Mauritius which must have a Spa, a fitness centre, a Boathouse for those by the sea, a conference room but also a children's corner.
As far as prices are concerned, 4-star hotels in Mauritius must respect a minimum price of 105 Euros for the high season (summer) and 70 Euros for the low season (winter) per person for one night.
